Iurie Leancă

Iurie Leancă (born October 20, 1963 in Cimișlia ) is a Moldovan diplomat and politician . He was head of government of the Republic of Moldova from April 2013 to February 2015 and previously foreign minister of the country.

Iurie Leancă was the first deputy of the Moldovan Foreign Minister from 1998 to 2001. From 2005 to 2007 he worked in the apparatus of the OSCE Commissioner for Minority Issues in the Netherlands . After returning to Chișinău , he was Vice President of ASCOM and Deputy Chairman of the Moldovan Foreign Policy Society. In the elections in July 2009 he was elected to the Moldovan Parliament on the list of the Partidul Liberal Democrat din Moldova (PLDM) and was nominated for the post of Foreign Minister by Prime Minister-designate Vlad Filat (PLDM) in September .

After Vlad Filat was overthrown by a vote of no confidence in parliament, Iurie Leancă was first installed as acting head of government in April 2013. On May 31, he was elected the new Prime Minister. His successor in the office of Foreign Minister was Natalia Gherman .

In the parliamentary elections on November 30, 2014 , the pro-European tripartite coalition was able to defend its mandate majority and Iurie Leancă initially remained in office. On February 12, 2015, however, he missed the required number of votes in a vote of no confidence . Observers suspected influential oligarchs, such as B. the former Prime Minister Vlad Filat , who wanted to prevent the reform policy announced by Leancă to combat the rampant corruption in the country, as they see their interests at risk.

On February 18, 2015, his party colleague Chiril Gaburici was elected Leancă's successor in the office of head of government .
