Ilya Valeryevich Konovalov

Ilya Valeryevich Konovalov ( Russian Илья Валерьевич Коновалов , English transcription Ilya Konovalov ; born March 4, 1971 ) is a Russian hammer thrower .

The six-time Russian champion (1995, 1999, 2002-2005) took part in six World Athletics Championships between 1995 and 2005 and always reached the final round. He achieved his best result at the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton. There he won the bronze medal behind Szymon Ziółkowski (83.38 m) and Kōji Murofushi (82.92 m) with a width of 80.27 m .

Konovalov also took part in the Olympic Games three times: in 1996 in Atlanta he finished sixth and 2000 in Sydney fifth. In 2004 in Athens , however, he failed in the qualification.

Ilya Konovalov is 1.92 m tall and weighs 106 kg. In February 2007 he was banned from the IAAF, the World Athletics Federation, for a violation of doping regulations for two years because the substance acetazolamide was found in one of his doping samples .
