description
An Illyrian helmet is usually made of bronze . His helmet bowl is hemispherical, on the upper side to the right and left of the apex line two clearly worked out ridges, which were used to attach the helmet bush. Three parallel decorative lines often run along the ridges. The cheek flaps reach below the chin. Deep, notch-shaped incisions are made in the helmet bowl behind the cheek flaps, which are used for decoration. There are holes in the cheek flaps for attaching the chin strap. On the back of the helmet there is a narrow, horizontal neck shield. On the forehead area there are often holes that were used to attach the helmet decoration ( ornaments ). A finely crafted decorative border often runs around the outer edge of the helmet , which is decorated with a variety of patterns. The helmets are about 22 cm high and weigh 1200 grams.
