Hermann Pflug (* 1951 in Blitzenreute ) is a German classical archaeologist .

From 1972 to 1981 Hermann Pflug studied Classical Archeology, Pre- and Early History , Ancient History and Provincial Roman Archeology at the Universities of Tübingen , Würzburg and Munich , from 1976 onwards as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . In 1981 he completed his studies with a dissertation on Roman grave steles with portraits in Northern Italy . In 1982/83, Pflug was able to travel to the Mediterranean as a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . After his return he worked briefly for the Commission for Ancient History and Epigraphy in Munich , then took on a teaching position at the University of Eichstätt and was a study tour guide in Italy . In 1985 he became a volunteer at the West Berlin Collection of Antiquities . The German Archaeological Institute hired him in 1987 as a research assistant for the exhibition "Ancient Helmets", which was shown as part of the 13th International Congress for Classical Archeology in Berlin in 1988. In 1989, Pflug became a research assistant at the University of Munich. From 1993 until his retirement in 2017 he was the curator of the archaeological collections - the antiquities museum and the cast collection of the Institute for Classical Archeology - at the University of Heidelberg with the rank of Academic Councilor , and later Academic Director.

As a conservator, in addition to looking after the archaeological collections, Pflug is also responsible for public relations and for the “Catalogs of the Collection of Ancient Cabarets of the Archaeological Institute of the University of Heidelberg”, which is supported by the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and edited by him together with Tonio Hölscher become. In his research, Pflug primarily deals with iconography and iconology in Greek vase painting , Roman sepulchral sculpture and ancient weapons.
