Ilmārs Atis Lejiņš (born March 19, 1971 ) is an officer in the Latvian armed forces with the rank of brigadier general . He currently works for Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk .

Life

Ilmārs Atis Lejiņš was born in 1971 in the United States of America to a Latvian family in exile. He grew up in Sweden and studied in Germany before returning to Latvia as part of the regaining of national independence.

Military career

In the 1990s, Lejiņš joined the reconstruction of the Latvian armed forces and graduated from a Swedish military academy in 1996. In the next few years he served in the Latvian Army in various positions at home and abroad. He also attended training courses in Sweden and Great Britain.

In 2005 he took command of the Latvian 2nd Infantry Battalion. Between 2007 and 2013 he served at the Armed Forces Headquarters. From 2013 to 2016 he was deployed at NATO headquarters in the Netherlands and from 2016 to 2018 as the commander of the Latvian infantry brigade. He then attended further training at the Baltic Defense College and was promoted to Brigadier General on July 4, 2019.
