Ilyas Kerim ogly Abdullayev ( Russian Ильяс Керим оглы Абдуллаев ; born March 10, jul. / March 23, 1913 greg. Life

Ilyas Kerim ogly Abdullayev graduated from the State Agricultural Institute and then worked as a biologist and research scientist in the field of genetics and plant breeding . In 1942 he became head of the Agriculture Department of the Central Committee (ZK) of the Communist Party of the Azerbaijani SSR and held this position until 1948. At the same time, between 1947 and 1950 he was the first deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijani SSR. Subsequently he was first deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers from 1948 to 1950 and from 1950 to 1954 Minister of Agriculture of the Azerbaijan SSR. He was also a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR between March 1950 and March 1962 . From 1953 to 1954 he was again Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and then from 1954 to 1958 First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers. In 1955 he became a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijani SSR and was again Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijani SSR between 1955 and 1962.

As the successor to Mirza Ajdar ogly Ibrahimov , Abdullayev took over on January 23, 1958, the post as Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijani Soviet Socialist Republic and thus as President of this Union Republic of the USSR. He remained in this office until November 7, 1959, when Saftar Mammad ogly Dschafarov succeeded him. After retiring from politics, in 1959 he became head of the Department of Genetics and Perennial Plant Breeding of the Institute of Genetics and Breeding of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijani SSR. He also became chairman of the Society for Genetics and Breeding in 1966. He did research on biology, genetics and the breeding of perennial plants, and in particular on polyploidy and mutagenesis . He also bred several grape varieties. For his services he received the Order of the Red Labor Banner and the Badge of Honor of the Soviet Union .
