Ilze Viņķele (born: Vidiņa ; born November 27, 1971 in Rēzekne ) is a Latvian politician of the Kustība Par! . She was Minister for Social Affairs from 2011 to 2014, and since 2019.

Life

Ilze Viņķele was born in 1971 in the west of what was then the Latvian SSR . After finishing school in her hometown, she studied social affairs.

Viņķele held various positions in the state administration and in 2001 joined the Tēvzemei ​​un Brīvībai / LNNK ("For Fatherland and Freedom") party. In 2008 she co-founded the Pilsoniskā savienība (Citizens' Union). Viņķele was elected to the Saeima , the Latvian parliament, in 2010 for the resulting Vienotība ("unity") party. In October 2011 she was appointed Minister of Social Affairs in Dombrovski's III cabinet. She held the office until January 2014. In August 2017 she joined the liberal party Kustība Par! From Vienotība . ("Move For!") Over. In the 2018 parliamentary elections , however, she was unable to win a seat for her new party, which is part of the Attīstībai / Par! started. Nevertheless, she was nominated by him as Minister of Health and has been a member of the Kariņš cabinet since he took office on January 23, 2019.

Private

Viņķele's father, the doctor Juris Galerijs Vidiņš (* 1938), was a well-known dissident who had been sent to Siberia and later belonged to the Helsinki-86 group . She is married to the doctor and politician Juris Viņķelis. The family lives in Riga with three sons.
