The novel trilogy

The main plot of the novel German Hearts - German Heroes was edited in depth by Karl May Verlag and turned into a novel trilogy. Some of the people involved were also renamed. There appear: as Apache chief Winnetou, as heroic western men Old Firehand, Sam Hawkens, Will Parker and Dick Stone as well as the quirky English Lord Sir David Lindsay. The now three-volume novel describes the fate of the German Adlerhorst family, whose members were scattered and enslaved around the world by the intrigues of criminals.

  • The first volume Dervisch initially takes place in Istanbul and Tunis, where some abducted women can be freed from their captivity in the harem. In North America, too, members and friends of the Adlerhorst family fall into the clutches of unscrupulous criminals.
  • The second part, In the Valley of Death, takes place in the Wild West, where many dangerous adventures have to be undertaken in search of the missing. In the valley of death, a place of horror, the threads of fate of those mentioned in the first volume finally come together.
  • In the third volume, sable hunters and cossacks lead to Russia on the trail of criminals who have not yet been caught and those of the last missing member of the Adlerhorst family . The long search ends among exiles in Siberia. There are still many exciting and sometimes humorous adventures to endure until the good end.

The second volume

The volume contains part of the edited version of the colportage novel German Hearts - German Heroes . Here the parts of the novel set in Arizona and California have been summarized. This volume was most successfully transformed into one of Karl May's “typical” Wild West stories by starring the adventure story with well-known characters. Oskar Steinbach became Old Firehand, Sam Barth and the Westmen Jim and Tim Snaker became Sam Hawkens, Dick Stone and Will Parker, Lord Eagle-nest became Sir David Lindsay and part of the Chiricahua-Apache Lata-nalga became Winnetou. The name of the Marikopas chief "Iron Mouth" was changed to "Iron Arrow". Since these changes involved cuts (like a love story by Sam Barth that was deleted), Franz Kandolf filled in new text. Roulin's first name Robin was no longer mentioned. Miranda is not allowed to move with Hofter, apparently purified, but remains a prisoner.

Dramatization of Bludau

In 1970, Jochen Bludau presented the first ever stage adaptation of Im Tal des Todes . The story also contained motifs from Karl May's "Christmas" . The white hero at Winnetou's side in this version was Old Shatterhand, played by Bludau himself.

In Jochen Bludau's Elsper stage piece, which he still mixed with “Christmas!” In 1970 and 1975 , the Marikopas chief is always called Peteh, demands the lease, which mainly consists of rifles, from the mercury mine operator and until 2010 had a regular cast with Meinolf Pape.

In the stage adaptations of In the Valley of Death , the villains Leflor, Walker and Roulin are mostly brought together to form the mercury mine owner Roulin. Jochen Bludau, on the other hand, used the name Leflor for his Elsper versions (exception: 2010). Most often this role has been played by Rolf Schauerte.

Performances of the Bludau version in Elspe and Ratingen:

  • 1970 (Elspe)
  • 1975 (Elspe and Ratingen)
  • 1981 (Elspe and Ratingen)
  • 1991 (Elspe)
  • 1992 (Ratingen)
  • 1998 (Elspe)
  • 2004 (Elspe)
  • 2010 (Elspe)
  • 2016 (Elspe)

Further dramatizations

In Bad Segeberg

  • 1980 (book: Harry Walther)
  • 2002 ( book : Michael Stamp)
  • 2015 (book: Michael Stamp)

Harry Walther from Bad Segeberg called the Marikopas chief in his 1980 version, which was only loosely based on the novel, "Fast Arrow". In the next versions in Bad Segeberg, 2002 and 2015, Michael Stamp had the "Iron Arrow" driven into alcohol addiction by the mercury mine operator Roulin.

In the play "In the Valley of Death", 2015 in Bad Segeberg, the role of Miranda was ennobled as a villain and played by Barbara Wussow .

In Mörschied

  • 2007 (book: Arnd Limpinsel)
  • 2017 (book: Marcel Gillmann)

The motif of the Marikopas chief who was driven into alcoholism was also present in 2007 in Mörschied.
