Karl May & Co. - The Karl May Magazine ( own spelling : KARL MAY & Co. ) is a quarterly German-language magazine devoted to all topics related to the German writer Karl May and aimed at anyone interested in Karl May .
history
The magazine (today mostly 92 pages long) has existed since November 1984, but was still called the Karl May Circular Letter and, as a fanzine, consisted of a few copied, stapled copies. Since then, the Karl May magazine , which is still a leisure project and is designed by Karl May fans, has developed under various publishers and editorial teams into an extensive, generously designed printed booklet (today in perfect binding and in full color) . There are now more than 145 issues.
In May 2009 the magazine celebrated its 25th anniversary in the wine cellar of Schloss Wackerbarth in Radebeul with a Karl May reading given by actors and speakers Konrad Halver , Jean-Marc Birkholz , Olaf Hörbe and Frank Wieczorek . At the end of the jubilee year, Karl May & Co. published a 132-page jubilee issue , which was until then the largest issue in the history of the magazine. The magazine's 30th birthday was celebrated again in Radebeul in 2014.

Karl May & Co. is published and distributed by Mescalero e. V., a non-profit association founded in 1994 with headquarters in Borod / Westerwald , in which Karl May enthusiasts from all over Germany, including journalists, designers and media scientists, have come together to make the publication of the magazine possible on a permanent basis.

In 2005 and 2009 the publisher of Karl May & Co. , Mescalero e. V., released two audio CDs: on the one hand the Karl May audio book Der Kutb (which is an oriental story by Karl May) by and with the well-known radio play speaker Konrad Halver , on the other hand the live recording of the Karl May May reading of Scharlihs Welt , which premiered in May 2009 as part of the anniversary event of Karl May & Co. on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the magazine in Radebeul .
In the spring of 2008, Karl May & Co. presented a 128-page special edition on the last Winnetou movie of the 1960s, Winnetou and Shatterhand, at one of the Karl May festivals that take place regularly in German-speaking countries , the Karl May Meetings near Vienna im Tal der Toten (1968), which presented mostly unknown photographic material from the filming of the feature film. At the Karl May Festival in Elspe at the end of July 2013, Karl May & Co. also presented a new 132-page special edition on the history of the Karl May Festival in Elspe from 1976 to 1986.
