Olaf Hörbe

Olaf Hörbe (* 28. January 1952 in Berlin ) is a German actor , theater director and playwright .

Life

Olaf Hörbe completed his training as an actor from 1973 to 1977 at the Leipzig Theater Academy and at the Dresden State Theater . Subsequently, he was a member of the ensemble of the state theaters of Saxony for ten years before he worked as a freelancer for a few years from 1987. During this time he played Selim Bassa in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Mephisto in Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , with whom he was a guest in Zwickau, at the Semperoper in Dresden . From 1991 he was again involved in the state theaters of Saxony until he retired in 2017.

Well-known roles, which Hörbe also counts among his most important, are the title roles in William Shakespeare's tragedy Othello , Nathan the Wise by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing , Wilhelm Tell by Friedrich Schiller and Cyrano by Bergerac by Edmond Rostand , as well as in Goethe's Urfaust , among others McMurphy in one flew over the cuckoo's nest in the stage version of Dale Wasserman or Philip II in Schiller's Don Karlos .

Since the mid-1990s, Hörbe has also been active as a playwright and among other things writes plays based on Karl May's literary models and which he staged himself on the Rathen rock stage, where he has appeared in numerous characters since 1992. He delivered another directorial work with the production of the children's opera Insalata Verdi at the Schenkenberg Opera in Switzerland, in which he himself slipped into the character of Giuseppe Verdi . In 1999 Hörbe developed a stage version of Simplicius Simplicissimus for the Badische Landesbühne . Also for the stage he adapted In God's Own Land based on the novel of the same name by Eberhard Görner . Furthermore, Hörbe worked for several years as a so-called "Mediclown" in hospitals and social institutions.

Occasionally Olaf Hörbe has also stood in front of the camera, including in two episodes of the crime series Polizeiruf 110 .

Private

Hörbe lives in Dresden and has two children. He is the brother of the actor Alexander Hörbe and brother-in-law of the actress Friderikke-Maria Hörbe .
