The Postpanmax ships of the Imabari 6350 series have been built in various construction variants by the Koyo Dockyard Company in Mihara , which belongs to the Imabari Group , and delivered to various clients. The MOL-P class of the Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines , for example, consisted entirely of ships of the type.

The ships are set up for the transport of dangerous cargo and have a container space capacity of around 6350 TEU, depending on the construction variant. With a homogeneous loading of 14-ton containers, the capacity is around 4500 TEU. Depending on the variant, around 550 connections for refrigerated containers are available. All ships have superstructures three quarters aft and have seven cargo holds equipped with cell guides, the hatches of which are closed with pontoon hatch covers. 2912 containers (TEU) can be stowed in nine layers and 14 rows in the room, a further 3438 TEU in up to seven layers and 16 rows on deck. The ship's propulsion system consists of a two-stroke diesel engine that acts directly on the fixed propeller. A frequently used main engine type is the MAN B&W 11K98MC with 62,920 kW, which enables a speed of up to 26 knots. The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .

Incidents

On February 12, 2017, a fire broke out in hold 4 off the coast of South Africa at APL Austria . The ship with a crew of 21 was located about 30 nautical miles southwest of Cape St. Francis , or about 35 nautical miles west-southwest of Port Elizabeth . The South African coastguard initially ordered the damaged vessel to the roadstead at Algoa Bay, where it arrived at around 2 a.m. on February 13, 2017. At around 5 a.m., the ship continued to Ngqura Port, where the fire-fighting work continued.

A fire broke out on the Mol Prestige south of Haida Gwaii on February 1, 2017 , injuring two crew members.
