Imagawayaki

Imagawayaki

Imagawayaki ( Japanese 今 川 焼 き , "Imagawa pastry") is a round Japanese pastry. It is made from flour , egg and sugar.

It is traditionally filled with anko , a sweet paste made from red adzuki beans . Nowadays there are other fillings such as chocolate cream, vanilla cream (custard cream) or canned fruit, but also meat, vegetables and others. Taiyaki is a similar dish .

The name imagawayaki arose because the pastry for the first time during the An'ei - era of (1772-1782) Edo period of a shop near the Imagawa bridge in Kanda , Edo was sold.
