ImageNet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ImageNet is a database of images that is used for research projects. Each picture is assigned to a noun . The nouns are arranged hierarchically through the WordNet project. There are on average more than 500 pictures for each noun. The project documented which objects are depicted by hand in more than 14 million images. These objects are framed in at least one million of the images. ImageNet contains more than 20,000 categories in English with a typical category such as B. "balloon" or "strawberry". Each of these categories consists of several hundred images. The database with comments on image URLs from third-party providers is freely accessible directly via ImageNet, although the actual images are not owned by ImageNet.

Since 2010, the ImageNet project has organized an annual software competition, the ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC) . Here software systems from the field of deep learning and object recognition compete for the correct classification and recognition of objects and scenes. The requirement in this competition uses a reduced list of a thousand non-overlapping classes.

ImageNet was first published in 2009 at the IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) and is used to train convolutional neural networks .

statistics

Words are grouped into so-called synsets, i.e. sets of synonyms. There are 21841 non-empty synonym sets. A total of 14,197,122 images are in ImageNet.
