The Augraben , sometimes also called Heckengraben , is an alluvial tributary of the Altmühl in the area of the city of Gunzenhausen in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district in Central Franconia . It drains the right bank near and flat floodplain of the river opposite the closed settlement area of the city of Gunzenhausen on the left side of the Altmühl.

It flows at an altitude of about 414  m above sea level. NHN on the federal road 13 east of Unterwurmbach not far from the Scheupeleinsmühle from the Kleiner Wurmbach and stretches for about 1.5 kilometers in a southerly direction parallel to the Altmühl through the wide open landscape of the wide Altmühltalaue . The body of water takes a little northeast of Aha at an altitude of 412  m above sea level. NHN from the right up to the Merzelfeldgraben, which is about twice as long and much higher, and flows less than 200 meters further into a loop of the Altmühl.

Like the Altmühl that runs parallel to it, the excavation only loses around two meters in height on its way from about 1.6 kilometers to the mouth, which is why the water drains off very slowly. After heavy rainfall, the surrounding meadow landscape is flooded by the water masses of the Altmühl.
