Imbrasos (Samos)
Imbrasos ( ancient Greek Ἴμβρασος , modern Greek Ίμβρασος Imvrasos ), is a river on the Greek island of Samos . The headwaters of the Imvrasos are located in the Ambelos Mountains near the village of Pyrgos , it runs southeast past Myli and flows into the sea in the south of the island near Ireo . In ancient times he was nicknamed Parthenios because the goddess Hera was supposedly born under a chaste mud bush on its bank and spent her virgin years. The Heraion , the main ancient sanctuary of the island , stood by this river .
The river god Imbrasos was often depicted on ancient Sami coins, sometimes holding a peacock. According to mythology, his wife was the nymph Chesias. Okyrrhoe , the couple's daughter, was a lover of Apollo .
