Immo Rittmeyer

Immo Rittmeyer (born January 6, 1936 in Kreuma near Leipzig ) is a former cyclist in the GDR . He was a participant in the 1964 Summer Olympics in road cycling.

The professional sports career of the trained car mechanic lasted from 1960 to 1965 as a member of the Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt sports club . He started cycling in 1954 as a touring rider.

He secured his participation in the Olympic Games in 1964 primarily by winning the German-German elimination race in Giessen . The participants of the then all-German Olympic team in road cycling were determined according to a point system in two elimination races. Rittmeyer won the first race in front of seven riders from the Association of German Cyclists (BDR). At the Olympic road race, Rittmeyer was unlucky and fell in the final phase, so that he came in 54th in the main field.

His most significant international successes were stage victories in the Tour of Austria and the Tour of Bulgaria in 1962. He took 4th place in 1963 in the Tour of the GDR .

In 1965 he had to end his competitive sports career after being delegated from his sports club.

After his active career, Rittmeyer continued to be active in sports. He took part in the Swedish Vasa Run (1993 and 94). He started several times on the Transalp Tour for amateur cyclists and was a participant in the senior cycling world championships.
