Immortal Souls is a melodic death metal band from Finland . Musical characteristics are the style's fast, melodic guitars and the “ growling ” typical of Death Metal .
Band history
The band was founded in late 1991. After several changes of the band members found themselves Särkioja A., E. Särkioja, Pete Loisa and Jupe Hakola, which then in January 1995 demo tape Immortal Souls recordings that still a death metal -Werk with deep vocals was. In November 1996 the demo Reflections of Doom followed , which was slower but also more aggressive than the first.
In 1998 the band went back to the studio to record the songs for Divine Wintertime . These were then released as a split CD together with the EP Through the Woods, Towards the Dawn by the Finnish band "Mordecai" . The songs of the Divine Wintertime were much more melodic and faster than their predecessors, so the band could be counted as Melodic Death Metal from this point on.
After a longer hiatus, they released the EP The Cleansing in 2000 , which was slower, but still very melodic. In the following year the first album was published under the name Under the Northern Sky , with which the band finally found their style, which they called "Melodic Winter Metal". In 2003 the second album Ice Upon the Night was released, which is stylistically similar to its predecessor, but clearly has stronger blues influences.
In 2005, the compilation Once Upon a Time in the North was finally released, which in addition to the no longer available Under the Northern Sky also contains the EPs The Cleansing and Divine Wintertime as well as three songs by Reflections of Doom and one by Immortal Souls . In May 2007 the band announced that they had switched from the Fear Dark label to Dark Balance . The album Wintereich was also released there in June 2007 .
In 2008 a headlining tour through Central Europe followed with Deuteronomium. Since then Aki Särkioja has only been a singer, bass is played by a session musician. In June 2010 the band announced that they had started recording their new album. The name and release date of the fifth album has not yet been announced.

style
Immortal Souls mostly play fast, technical Melodic Death Metal according to the Scandinavian school. The lead guitar uses virtuoso and fast playing techniques both in solos and partly in the accompaniment of vocals and in riffs. Riffs , melodies and licks are melodic and adhere to classical harmony. The drumming is characterized by double bass and blast beats. The singing is guttural and atonal in a medium pitch.
The texts by Immortal Souls deal with experiences and motifs of the Christian faith, the imagery is based on the Nordic winter nature.
