Imperial was a whiskey distillery in Carron , Moray , Scotland .
history
The distillery was founded in 1897 by Thomas MacKenzie. Production began in the summer of 1898, but the following year the distillery had to close again and was only reopened in 1919, only to be shut down again in 1925 by the new owners, the Distillers Company Limited (DCL) - with the exception of the malt house . this time until 1955. In 1965 the capacity of the distillery doubled by increasing the number of stills from two to four. In 1985 the distillery was sold to Allied Distillers , who shut down in the same year and only reopened in 1989. The distillery has been closed again since 1998. Since the takeover of Allied Distillers on July 5, 2005, the distillery has belonged to Pernod Ricard . In 2013 the buildings were demolished to make way for the new Dalmunach whiskey distillery.
production
The water for the Speyside distillery comes from the Ballintomb Burn. Since the company's own malt house was closed, the malt has been obtained from Burghead Maltings . The distillery has a mash tun ( mash do ) (11.56 tons) of steel and six fermentation tanks ( wash backs ) (per 56,500 liters) of larch . It is distilled in two wash stills (21,000 l each) and two spirit stills (18,800 l each).
