Imre Mátyás

Imre Mátyás (born September 10, 1957 , † July 7, 2012 ) was a Hungarian sports journalist and football functional .

Career

Large parts of Mátyás' biography are unknown, allegedly he lived as a street musician in France in the 1980s . He later worked as a sports journalist and photographer for various media in Hungary, he was considered one of the first representatives of modern online journalism in his home country. The author of various football books has worked for numerous Hungarian newspapers such as Nemzeti Sport , Sport Plusz and Napi Ász as well as Sportgéza .

Mátyás founded the online portal nb1.hu, the first Hungarian online football portal. Via this portal he initiated the awarding of Hungarian footballers with the Golden Ball , an alternative award for Hungary's footballer of the year to the corresponding award by the Hungarian Football Association .

Mátyás has been working for UEFA as a media officer since 2009 , in this role he accompanied the 2012 European Championship . Despite a serious illness, he stayed there until the quarter-final match between Spain and France , finally returning to Hungary, where he died.
