In Am Sayad Mahmood

In Am Sayad Mahmood (* 1956 in Baghdad ) is a German social worker of Iraqi origin.

Life

In Am Sayad Mahmood is a qualified electrical engineer; she worked at the university in Baghdad. Because of her husband's social commitment, her family was persecuted by the Ba'ath regime. Because their lives were in danger, she fled Iraq with her husband and two children. On August 29, 1996, she was in detention centers of Frankfurt am Main Airport on. By February 1, 1998, she and her family had to move to other refugee homes 22 times before she finally settled in Dresden .

She learned German and started helping other refugees. She volunteered as a community interpreter and cultural advisor for adult immigrants from Arabia and Persia . Since 2001 Mahmood has been working in the Ecumenical Information Center in Dresden in the Christian-Islamic dialogue and migration advice. Mahmood is a member of the Saxon Migrants Advisory Council and deputy chairwoman of the Dresden Foreigners Council .

She has been a German citizen since 2012. In 2014 Mahmood was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for her efforts to promote Christian-Judeo-Islamic dialogue and her understanding of cultural diversity .

In Am Sayad Mahmood lives in Dresden.
