Indicamino

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

indicamino is a Christian evangelical mission and aid organization that supports indigenous fringe groups in Peru , Bolivia and Colombia . The Spanish-sounding name indicamino is intended to suggest the word signpost (indicador de camino).

History and areas of work

The mission organization was founded in 1956 under the name Swiss Indian Mission and began building the first training center in the Peruvian lowlands. The Huánuco and Lima centers followed later . After these centers worked successfully, further stations were established in Bolivia (1976) and Colombia (1995). In Lima, indicamino's core work is training and social help for Peruvians in the slums, where it operates an advice and placement center.

The 55 European employees, including 15 German, come from different parishes and churches. Eight young Germans are working in South America as part of a voluntary social year . The mission work combines mission with social help. It looks after the seriously ill, supports medical care, trains natives to be carpenters and mechanics and trains them in keeping small animals and hygiene. With the support of the relief organization, over 500 Christian communities have emerged in the Peruvian lowlands (as of 2016).

The German association, founded in 1975, is a member of the Working Group of Evangelical Missions in Germany and the Working Group of Evangelical Missions in Switzerland. The headquarters of the mission work is St. Margrethen in Switzerland and Trossingen in Germany.

In 2018 there was a break between the German and the Swiss association, which will henceforth be run as independent associations, but support each other at the service level.
