Industry quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The industrial quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 35). It was first performed on January 30, 1847 in Baden near Vienna.

Remarks

Against the background of the ever faster industrial development in the middle of the 19th century, more and more industrial exhibitions were held in various cities. The city of Baden near Vienna organized such an exhibition in 1847. The supporting program also included a concert in the city's Redouten Hall, at which Johann Strauss (son) played with his band and also performed the industrial quadrille written for the occasion . The name is obviously derived from the industrial exhibition. The work was dedicated to the organizing committee of the ball. According to reports at the time, the work was well received by the public. But it cannot really have lasted. The orchestral material has meanwhile been lost. The CD recording mentioned below was only possible thanks to a new arrangement (probably based on a piano reduction) by Prof. Ludwig Babinski .

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 4 minutes and 59 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
