Industrial knife

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In industry and in commercial operations, industrial knives or technical knives are used in the production and processing of a wide variety of materials . They usually consist of hardened tool steels such as chrome / tungsten alloyed tool steel. Tungsten carbide or cutting ceramics are also used for special applications . Industrial knives are mainly used to cut paper , textile fabrics and sheet metal , but also wood ( veneer ) or plastics (e.g. in packaging machines). Knives for the food industry, especially meat or fish processing , are made of stainless steel .

These knives are called machine knives when they are firmly clamped in a machine. Round knives with diameters of 20 to 600 mm are often used for longitudinal cuts, whereas straight knives of 40 to 6000 mm are used for cross cuts. Production centers are located in the UK in Sheffield and in Germany in Bergisch Land .

Industrial knives include profile knives and planer knives, chipper knives , chopping knives , serrated knives , tray knives, knives for log cutting systems, sheet metal shear knives, veneer knives, knife rollers, granulating knives and circular knives.
