Woldenberg Infantry Division

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Infantry Division Woldenberg was a German infantry - Division of the Army in World War II .

Division history

The division was set up on January 20, 1945 near Woldenberg in Pomerania to fill the Pomeranian position. For this purpose, units available nearby from Wehrmacht training facilities (Heeresflakschule Greifswald ) and remnants of other units were quickly brought together. It is doubted that the association came close to reaching division strength. At the end of January, the division had to withdraw towards Landsberg .

The insufficient number of troops is also evident from the records of Commander Kegler. Contrary to an order by Himmler , the latter had refused to defend the town of Landsberg as a fortress with this troop composition of a “ unfortunate bunch of uniformed people ”. Instead, he led the association in the direction of Küstrin . Because of this insubordination , he was sentenced to death .

The unit was broken up by the Red Army in the Woldenberg area at the beginning of 1945 and the remaining men were assigned to other units in Pomerania.
