The Infanterikanonvagn 91 ( Ikv 91 ) is a Swedish tank destroyer from the 1960s that was used exclusively by the Swedish army .
history
The Infanterikanonvagn 91 was developed by Hägglund and Söner , which is now part of BAE Systems Hägglunds , in the 1960s. The first prototypes were completed in 1969. After the test phase, series production ran from 1975 to 1978. The vehicle is currently being decommissioned by the Swedish army.
technology
The main armament is a Bofors 90 mm L / 54 cannon that can fire both HEAT and HE ammunition. The elevation range of the cannon ranged from −10 ° to + 15 °, the lateral range is 360 °. As secondary armament, the vehicle carried two machine guns of the 7.62 mm caliber, one of which was mounted coaxially to the gun and the other was on the turret by the loader hatch. The vehicle also had a smoke throw system.
The Infanterikanonvagn 91 had an electronic, analogue, automatically operating fire control system with a laser range finder, which increased the probability of being hit. The rate of fire of the 90 mm cannon was eight rounds per minute. 59 90 mm projectiles were carried.
Due to its power-to-weight ratio of 20.2 HP / t, the IKV 91 showed exceptional off-road driving characteristics. In addition, the low ground pressure of the chain made it possible to drive over and over snow covers and tundra floors without any problems in summer. The vehicle was also amphibious, and some models were even equipped with propellers to enable higher speeds in the water.
