Karl Alois Fickler , also Carl Aloys Fickler , Carl Borroniaeus Alois Fickler , CBA Fickler , (born May 8, 1809 in Konstanz , † December 18, 1871 in Mannheim ) was a German high school teacher and historian . In 1849 he was the defender of the accused of the Baden Revolution in Rastatt .

Life

Fickler, brother of the Baden agitator Joseph Fickler , came from a poor Tyrolean family. He attended the "Lyceum zu Constanz" and studied theology and philosophy at the University of Freiburg from 1827 to 1830 . He was a chaplain and education teacher in Ettlingen in 1832 and was ordained a priest on September 7, 1831 , but preferred school service. In 1832 he was appointed high school professor in Donaueschingen. From 1842 to 1848 he was chairman of the Association for History and Natural History of the Baar, today's Baarverein . Karl Alois Fickler was director of the grammar school in Donaueschingen from 1838 , professor at the "Lyceum zu Rastatt " (Ludwig-Wilhelm-Gymnasium) from 1848 and in Mannheim from 1852 . In 1854 he became head of the antiquarian bookshop in Mannheim and the Palatinate library. From 1858 he was a member of the scholars' committee of the Germanic Museum Association in Nuremberg .

After the fall of Rastatt in 1849 ( Baden Revolution , Rastatt Fortress ), the Prussian commando charged him with defending the accused in court. After the news of the second arrest of his brother Joseph Fickler, Karl Alois Fickler traveled to the Hohenasperg prison to provide him with laundry and clothes. In addition, Karl Alois supported his brother's family financially. Joseph Fickler was soon released on bail and was able to flee to Switzerland. In contrast to his brother Joseph, Karl Alois Fickler was in conservative circles. Closest to him was the Patriotic Association under the leadership of Professor Franz Joseph Kuhn .

Karl Alois Fickler has published numerous works on historical subjects, in particular some historical works on Donaueschingen and the Fürstenberg house with which he maintained close relationships. His most important work is sources and research on the history of Swabia and Eastern Switzerland (1859). In 1858 he was awarded the "Knight of the Prussian Red Eagle Order ".
