Infestus is a German band founded in 2003 that has existed since 2010 as a solo project by founding member Andras. The style is based on Black Metal with influences from Progressive Metal , Doom Metal and Thrash / Heavy Metal .

history

The band was founded in 2003 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Bavaria . The founding members include Andras (then Moloc), Dagon and Harbarth. In 2003 the first demo "Of Ancient Splendor" was released, in 2004 the first album "Worshiping Times of Old" was released. On these two releases Dagon was responsible for vocals, Harbarth for guitars and Andras for drums and bass. Andras also did the main part of the songwriting for the split CD with Lost Life, which was released in 2005 by Fullmoon Funeral Productions. After the release of the split CD, guitarist Harbarth left the band for personal and motivational reasons.

Due to developments in the Black Metal scene at the time (brotherhoods, associations), Andras and Dagon withdrew from the scene and also from the stage, as they were of the opinion that the true development of this musical genre could only be found in the solitude of the individual can be. Andras took over the songwriting for the concept album "Chroniken des Ablebens", which was released on August 29, 2008 via Debemur Morti Productions , as well as the entire instrumentation (drums, guitar, bass) and some of the lyrics. Dagon continued to focus on singing and poetry. Thematically, this album should extend the moment of dying with all its emotional turmoil to the playing length of the album.

For the concept album "Ex | Ist", which was also released in 2011 by Debemur Morti Productions, Andras took on the vocals and all of the lyrics in his compositions in addition to all of the instruments, since Dagon left Infestus in 2010. The concept of “E x | I st “and the lack of opportunity for rehearsals are cited as reasons for Dagon's exit. In the album concept about psychotic, identity-disturbed, dissociative states that lead to the destruction of the personality, the title is also reflected, separated by a vertical line, in which the "Ex" stands for the past and the "Is" for the present ( probably personal reference). In addition, in a bilingual approach, the English verb “to exist” in contrast to “to live” is intended to define the state of pure existence far removed from emotions or personality, as a consequence of a chronic mental illness.

In 2012 Andras tried to set up a live line-up to bring Infestus back on stage after more than seven years. However, this failed at the first attempt, which is why the occupation was completely dissolved. Andras made his first appearance with a functioning live line-up in 2013, now acting as a singer at concerts. Since then there have been many music changes in the live line-up.

On April 25, 2014 the second solo concept album "The Reflecting Void" was released, again via Debemur Morti Productions. The feeling of inner emptiness is interpreted as a deceptive reflection, which conceals the real cause and which Andras breaks open with this album to dare to take a look at the repressed. The synthesis of the concept comes to the conclusion that there can be no catharsis.

Then as now, Andras describes the deep emotional roots in his works, which he defines as inner demons and which come through his hand into this reality.

Stylistically, with “The Reflecting Void” he moves a little further away from Black Metal and gives other influences more space in order to be able to depict a more complete picture of his personality.

style

Initially at home in Black Metal, the musical style of expression, especially since Andras Infestus has been leading a solo project, has developed into its own, original composition of different styles based on Black Metal. Melancholic melodies are paired with raw aggression, introspective acoustic moments and bluesy guitars. In the complex, partly progressive compositions, which in some moments seem “almost jazzy”, “the old limits of Black Metal have hardly any access”.
