The Infiana Group GmbH is a developer and producer of special films for the consumer goods market and for industry. These are used for packaging and as a component of hygiene products, as separating and surface films for applications in the construction industry and as separating films for technical adhesive tapes and special labels. The group of companies employs around 850 people at the two production sites in Forchheim and Malvern and is active in the fields of personal care, health care, building & construction, composites and the pressure sensitive market. The company's headquarters are in Forchheim, Upper Franconia .

history

The origins of the company go back to the mirror glass and foil beating shop Forchheim, founded in 1854. The factory was founded by Moritz Frankenthal and Joseph Pfeifer Morgenstern from Fürth. They bought one of the 22 Wiesent mills in Forchheim and converted it for film production. At that time, around 11,000 Bavarian guilders invested in the concession, which today corresponds to around 500,000 euros. Moritz Frankenthal and Joseph Pfeifer Morgenstern were able to start producing tin foils , which were coated with mercury for the mirror glass .

In 1858 Joseph Pfeifer Morgenstern ceded half of his share in the company to his brother David Morgenstern for around 9,000 guilders. Three years later he also acquired the company shares from Moritz Frankental and was thus the sole owner of the company. The company name was then: Dr. David Morgenstern mirror glass and film factory, open trading company based in Fürth. In the following years, the company invested in both floor space and production facilities in order to be able to meet the increasing demand. The rapid industrial development and the increasing number of inquiries meant that from 1912 the foil manufacturer no longer hammered the metallic foils as it once did, but instead produced them on rolls. In 1938 the film manufacturer was then taken over by the Dutch-British group Unilever for around 590,000 Reichsmarks and entered in the commercial register under the name “Folienfabrik Fürth-Forchheim mbH” .

In July 1951, the company's headquarters were relocated from Fürth to Forchheim, whereupon the company name changed accordingly to “Folienfabrik Forchheim GmbH”.

In connection with the efforts to streamline the 4P overall business and to work out the togetherness of the various 4P companies of Unilever more, the company name was changed on December 1, 1972. The Forchheim film factory was then renamed "4P Folie Forchheim GmbH". In 1992 4P Folie Forchheim GmbH was sold to the Dutch Van Leer Group. Seven years later, Van Leer joined the Finnish group Huhtamäki .

In 2004, the new production site in Malvern, Pennsylvania was opened, whereby it was referred to as a “small Forchheim in the USA” because the factory was copied in the USA.

In the summer of 2014, Huhtamäki announced that in the future it would focus more on packaging for food. The group thus released the Huhtamäki Films division for sale.

In January 2015, Huhtamäki Films was finally sold to Deutsche Beteiligungs AG and DBAG Fund VI, which it advised. The purchase price was 141 million euros. Since this management buyout, the special films have been produced under the company name Infiana. Infiana invests around seven percent of its sales in development and research.
