Ingeborg Scheibler

Ingeborg Scheibler (born August 31, 1929 in Krefeld ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Ingeborg Scheibler was on April 17, 1956 with Bernhard Schweitzer at the University of Tübingen with a thesis on the subject of studies on the composition of early Greek flat art. The symmetrical image form and its history is doing a doctorate . In 1956/57 she received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . Then she worked for the Kerameikos excavation. In 1971 he completed his habilitation at the University of Munich with the thesis Greek lamps (from the Kerameikos) . In Munich she was the main curator at the Museum for Casts of Classical Works and taught as an associate professor .

Scheibler is primarily concerned with Greek ceramics and painting as well as the history of artists. Her monograph, Greek Pottery, is a standard work and has also been translated into Italian and Greek. As a specialist in the manufacture of Greek ceramics and their economic, technical and stylistic backgrounds, Scheibler was also responsible for a large part of the articles on this topic in the New Pauly , but also in the Lexicon of the Old World . She is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute .
