The Ingelfinger barrel

The Ingelfinger Fass is a barrel-shaped wine museum near Ingelfingen in the Hohenlohe district in Baden-Württemberg and is considered Europe's second largest wooden barrel.

The barrel

The construction of the barrel was initiated in 2001 by the Ingelfingen entrepreneur Fritz Müller ( GEMÜ ); The construction was completed in 2002. The cantilevered barrel construction made of laminated wood panels with solid oak cladding was placed lying on a stone substructure, which is 300 meters above sea level in the vineyards above Ingelfingen. An educational wine trail leads directly past the museum.

Inside the barrel there are historical wine-growing equipment on two levels, which can be viewed through the window fronts. On the area around the barrel there are other, larger devices as well as the metal figure of a wine grower. Twice a year the barrel is opened for the open house; it can also be rented for companies.

size

The Bad Dürkheim barrel has a larger volume than the Ingelfinger barrel, but it can be considered the largest self-supporting barrel construction in Europe. The large barrel of Heidelberg Castle has a smaller volume.

The barrel is 9.4 meters high, 18 meters wide and 13.2 meters deep. The barrel body has a height of seven meters, a width of 14.75 meters and a depth of 8.8 meters. The volume of the Ingelfinger barrel is given as 716.5 cubic meters .

reachability

The driveways to the barrel, which has some parking spaces, are only open to agricultural traffic. The barrel can be reached on foot from Ingelfingen in around 20 minutes. The shutters on the windows of the barrel are not completely closed, so that a look into the - unlit - interior is possible at any time.
