Inget nytt under solen ( Swedish for 'nothing new under the sun') is the second studio album by the Swedish progressive rock band Kaipa . It was released on Decca Records in 1976 .

Creation and publication

After the self-titled debut album in December 1975 and a tour in the spring of 1976, the band is said to have been on the verge of breaking up several times because the musicians were driven by perfectionism and could not agree on rhythmic details during rehearsals. But at the end of June Kaipa went into the studio to record all new material since the debut album. The compositions came almost exclusively from Hans Lundin and Roine Stolt . The title of the album goes back to a question from the president of Kaipa's former label Elektra.

Musea reissued Inget nytt under solen in 1993. The bonus tracks consisted of English-language re-recordings of other tracks on the album, a live version and an older unreleased track. The album was also included in the 2005 box set The Decca Years 1975–1978 by InsideOut Music .

style

Kaipa play varied symphonic progressive rock with Clavinet , Fender Rhodes , Hammond organ , Mellotron and the distinctive Rickenbacker bass on the album . There are many melodic solos as well as elegant, “spacey” (or “weird”) and bombastic passages. Despite occasional breaks , the structures are usually not very complex. The mood is often gloomy.

reception

Inget nytt under solen is now considered a classic of Swedish progressive rock. Udo Gerhards from Babyblauen Seiten praises the “varied and imaginative” compositions and sees one of Kaipa's strengths “in the skillful and natural assembly of the various parts, each of which has its own mood and character, but still everything is a unity forms ". Horst Straske says: "This is fantastic Progressive Rock and it contains everything that makes this Swedish band so unique."
