Ingleside is a villa in the Scottish town of Elgin in the Council Area Moray . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

description

The exact year of construction of Inglewood can only be reconstructed. It is already marked on a city map from 1822. Ms. Ross is given as the owner . Documents suggest a year of construction around 1813, possibly 1816.

The planner of the building has not survived. However, there are strong architectural parallels to the work of James Gillespie Graham , in particular to a Gillespies villa in Biggar , South Lanarkshire , which is described as being almost identical.

The single-storey, neo-Gothic Villa Ingleside is built on a slope west of the city center. It stands between West Road ( A96 ) and Oldmills Road . The main facade of the villa, which is exposed to the southwest and is four axes wide, is slightly asymmetrical. The masonry along the main and side facades consists of stone blocks, while roughly hewn quarry stone was used at the rear. The entrance portal emerges slightly from the facade. It is accessible via a short bridge. The windows are designed with simple pointed arches and are coupled . Just like the entrance door, they are crowned with cornices .

A rounded risalit emerges from the rear facade . The coupled pointed arch windows run along the entire height of the facade. The concluding, flat hip roofs are covered with slate .
