Ingo Pini

Ingo Pini (born October 13, 1936 in Koblenz ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Life

After graduating from school in Helmstedt, Pini studied classical archeology , art history and Greek studies at the universities of Marburg , Munich and Athens from 1956 to 1963 . He received his doctorate on December 11, 1963 with Friedrich Matz with the thesis Contributions to Minoan Grave Studies . He then traveled with the German Archaeological Institute's travel grant for a year in the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean. After that he was on the corpus of the Minoan and Mycenaean seals from 1965 to 2010active in Marburg. In 1969 he became co-editor and 1975 editor of the Corpus, which currently comprises 30 volumes and 7 supplements. In 1987 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Marburg. In 1999 the University of Athens awarded him an honorary doctorate . In 2008 he received the gold medal of the "Institute for Aegean Prehistory" in Philadelphia.

Ingo Pini mainly deals with questions and problems of the Minoan - Mycenaean culture, especially the glyptics . He lives in Marburg.
