Ingvar Pettersson

Ingvar Albin Henrik Pettersson (born January 19, 1926 in Rådmansö ; † July 2, 1996 in Jädraås ) was a Swedish athlete who was internationally successful as a walker on the 50-kilometer distance in the 1960s .

In 1963 Pettersson won his first of four consecutive Swedish championship titles in 50 km walking. In the same year he finished second at the Nordic Championships in Fredrikstad and third at the World Cup in Varese .

He celebrated the most important success of his career at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He won the bronze medal in a time of 4: 14: 17.4 hours over the 50-kilometer distance behind the Italian Abdon Pamich (4: 11: 12.4 h) and the British Paul Nihill (4:14:31, 2 h). In 1965 Pettersson won over the same distance at the Nordic Championships in Örebro .

Ingvar Pettersson was 1.74 m tall and had a competition weight of 64 kg. He started for the Stockholm Gångklubb .
