Innocentia Pögel (religious name), née Amalia Pögel (* 1824 in Lauterhofen , Bavaria ; † February 17, 1907 in Vienna ) was a German nun and superior of the Elisabethinum in Ober Sankt Veit and head of the Ober Sankt Veiter children's institution for 40 years .

Life

Innocentia Pögel was born in the municipality of Lauterhofen in Bavaria in 1824 and made her profession in 1855 . She belonged to the School Sisters of the 3rd Order of St. Francis and was subsequently Superior of the Elisabethinum in Ober Sankt Veit for 40 years . She also appeared as the director of the Ober Sankt Veiter Children's Prison and was awarded the Golden Salvator Medal for her work on January 7, 1902 . On February 17, 1907, Pögel died in Vienna at the age of 83 and was buried on February 19 at the Ober Sankt Veiter cemetery . In her honor, a street in Ober Sankt Veit was named after her, which initially (from July 3, 1907) was incorrectly named Innozentiagasse , before the name was corrected on October 11, 1907.
