The diesel locomotive Inselbahn Spiekeroog 4 was built by Christoph Schöttler Maschinenfabrik GmbH with two axles and hydraulic power transmission. The locomotive was used by the Inselbahn from 1957 to 1981, most recently to dismantle the line, and has been retained by the German Railway Association .

History and commitment

A locomotive twice as powerful as the locomotive 2 was delivered to the island in 1957. It was part of a design that was developed from 1956 with the type designation CFL 40 DR by Christoph Schöttler Maschinenfabrik in standard gauge , nine produced copies are known. The locomotive 4 is the only known machine designed in the meter gauge.

Initially, the locomotive was used for all traffic. That changed in 1963 when railcar 5 took over passenger traffic and in 1965 the more powerful locomotive 6 took over the rest of the traffic on the island railway. The Lok 4 was used henceforth for shunting and the second passenger set.

The locomotive was in use on the island railway until the end of operation. After she helped dismantle the line in 1981, she was first erected on the station grounds as a memorial. The locomotive was given the nickname Der Schnell Edward in honor of Eduard Fischer, who has been the regular train driver for many years . Since the North Sea air affected the monument, the locomotive was taken over by the German Railway Association in 2000, where it was given the designation V2. It has been processed again since 2003.

Constructive features

Like the previous locomotive had the Lok 4 a Endführerstand and a long low porch, which was additionally bevelled for better distance vision. The low design of the locomotive made it easier for staff to get on and off while driving.

The OM 321 from Daimler-Benz was used as the engine . Different engines are mentioned for the standard gauge locomotives. The transmission is an American-style hydraulic transmission. The locomotive is painted green, the chassis is painted red. The locomotive has a handbrake and a balancing lever coupling.
