The two-axle diesel locomotive Inselbahn Spiekeroog 6 was built by Christoph Schöttler Maschinenfabrik GmbH with hydraulic power transmission for the Spiekerooger Inselbahn and used there until the end of operation. Then it came to the Langeoog Island Railway , where the locomotive is still available today (2020).

History and commitment

The locomotive belongs to the Schöma CFL 80 DB series . Of the locomotives of this type series, only one machine is known in the standard gauge . Locomotive 6 was put into service on October 30, 1965 on the island railway, after it had carried out its test drive from the pier to the depot. The locomotive, which replaced locomotive 2 in service, was mainly used for baggage and freight transport, in rush hour the transport of the second passenger train was its job. The locomotive performed these services until the end of operation in 1981.

Then the locomotive came to the Langeoog Island Railway and was named Kö 4 there . There the locomotive is used in freight train service; its coupling device prevents passenger trains from being transported. During a major repair, the locomotive was painted red like all other locomotives on the Langeoog Island Railway.

Constructive features

In contrast to locomotive 4 , the locomotive is equipped with a central driver's cab and a larger front section for the machinery and a smaller front section for the auxiliary services. In terms of machine technology, the locomotive has a 6-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine from Daimler-Benz OM 352 , its output is specified as 88 hp. The power is transmitted to both axles via a fluid transmission with a flanged reversing gear via cardan shafts .

Originally the superstructure of the locomotive was painted green and the chassis was painted red. During the major repairs in 1999 due to an engine failure, the locomotive was painted red from the Langeoog island railway. The height of the driver's cab was also increased by 16 cm, and the locomotive was given different engine flaps. The possibility of coupling the locomotive with the combined central buffer-balancing lever coupling was not changed, so that the locomotive is not suitable for the new passenger carriages of the Langeoog island railway, equipped with Scharfenberg couplings . She has a handbrake.
