The Magnifica Comunità degli Altipiani Cimbri ( Italian for Great Community of the Zimbri Plateau ) is a valley community of the Autonomous Province of Trento . The municipal association has its administrative headquarters in Lavarone in the Gionghi fraction .

location

The valley community in the southeast of Trentino comprises the communities on the high plateaus of Folgaria, Lavarone and Lusern, which are part of the Vicentine Alps . It lies between the Adige Valley in the west and the plateau of the seven municipalities in the east, which is already part of the Veneto region . In the north, the Torrente Centa and the edge of the Lavarone plateau sloping towards the Valsugana form the border with the Valsugana. In the east, the border of the valley community runs west of the Passo Vezzena on the Lusern plateau to Monte Costesin ( 1528  m slm ), which was fought over during the First World War and borders the province of Vicenza . The valley community also borders the province of Vicenza in the south-east and south. Here the Astico valley forms the geographical border with the neighboring province until it runs south over the Fiorentini plateau and then east of the Passo Coe over the plateau of Folgaria to the edge of the plateau north of the Val Terragnolo . The latter forms the south-western border to the Vallagarina valley community .

The area of the valley community is characterized by deciduous and coniferous forests , which are repeatedly interrupted by meadows and pastures. While the plateaus of Lavarone and Lusern are relatively even and have no major differences in altitude, the geomorphology in the west in the municipality of Folgaria varies more. Here you can also find the deepest point of the Vigolana Group at 369  m slm and the highest point in the valley with the 2060  m slm high Monte Cornetto . The valley community has a total area of 106.07 km².

The three communities were merged in 2006 as part of a regional reform that led to the formation of valley communities and until then belonged to different district communities . The name of the valley community alludes to the settlement of the area by the Cimbri from the 11th century. In Folgaria and Lavarone, however, only field names indicate the former Cimbrian past. Lusern, on the other hand, is still a Cimbrian language island .

Protected areas

In the Altipiani Cimbri valley community there are three Natura 2000 protected areas and two other communal biotopes that are managed by the valley community.
