The Institut des cultures arabes et méditerranéennes (Institute for Arab and Mediterranean Cultures (ICAM)) is an association and Geneva cultural center for the promotion of Arab cultures in Switzerland .

The institute was founded in 2013 by the Lebanese Sudanese bookseller Alain Bittar and aims to promote the cultures of the Arab world and to establish an intercultural exchange between Switzerland and the Arab world. Supported by the Geneva cantonal and city government, the cultural site promotes the recognition of Arabic-speaking communities in Geneva society and their history in dialogue with the local population. The former Swiss Consul General in New York, François Barras, is the head of the sponsoring association .

Exhibitions and concerts

In addition to a library and bookstore for Arabic literature, the institute also houses an exhibition space: the Galerie d'Olivier, for contemporary art. There are exhibitions with a direct reference to Arab cultures and the Mediterranean area. Since 2016 artists such as Wajih Nahlé ( Lebanon ), Nja Mahdaoui ( Tunisia ) Nazir Ismail ( Syria ), Mohamed Al Dabous (Palestine), Mohamed Al Hawajri ( Gaza ) Sohail Salem (Gaza), Ali Taraghijah (Iran), Towhidi Tabari (Iran), Hamra and Gianni Motti their works. In addition to book lectures and cooking courses, it also organized concerts by well-known musicians such as Karim Wasfi , Rami Khalifé or the Fête de l'Olivier , the first Arab music festival in Switzerland.
