The Institute of Food Technology of North Rhine-Westphalia (proper spelling: Institute for Lebensmitteltechnologie.NRW, abbreviated ILT.NRW) is one of three research institutes at the Technical University of East Westphalia-Lippe region and is situated in Lippe Lemgo in North Rhine-Westphalia . Research focuses on innovations, sustainability, quality, safety and digitalization in food and beverage production . The in-institute was created in 2011 through a merger of active research professors from the Life Science Technologies department of the university. It forms an important growth core in the concept of the Lemgo Innovation Campus. The ILT.NRW has been on the research map of the University Rectors' Conference since 2014 .

research

The research of the ILT.NRW is industry-oriented and is often carried out in cooperation with regional and national companies from the areas of food production and food machine construction. The main research areas are derived from the institute's current six research groups. These are process engineering , applied biochemistry , beverage technology , meat technology, as well as food chemistry and coffee technology. The institute and its research projects regularly enable cooperative doctorates .

The interdisciplinary FH impulse initiative " smart FoodTechnology OWL " ( own spelling ) has been running since 2017 in cooperation with the Institute for Industrial Information Technology of TH OWL (inIT), other research and industry partners as well as associations and institutions. The initiative aims to research elements of information and communication technology in the field of food production. In this context, there is also the establishment of a research factory on the Innovation Campus Lemgo, in which the establishment of Industry 4.0 approaches in food production can be examined using demonstrator systems.

Knowledge transfer in business and society

The institute organizes various scientific and technical workshops, seminars and conferences for transfer to business and society. Among other things, it participates in the food law and technology conferences of the Lemgo working group Meat + Delicatessen (LAFF eV for short), which take place every six months. In 2016, the institute, together with the Society of German Food Technologists, hosted the GDL Congress on Food Technology. The institute is regularly represented at trade fairs such as AnugaFoodTec or the Hanover Fair . Another focus of the activities of the ILT.NRW is the promotion of startups and founders. As one of the three founders of the FoodFounders initiative, the institute supports those interested in starting a business with food and beverage innovations from all over Germany as well as its own students.
