history

The Institute for Military Geosciences was founded on January 15, 1997 as a department of the National Defense Academy (LVAk). The technical service management was carried out in the central office of the Federal Ministry for National Defense by the Department of Military Strategy (MilStrat).

With effect from December 1, 2002, the "Military Geosystems" department was transferred to the Armaments Staff / ICT Directorate and the Institute for Military Geosystems was integrated into the Command Support Command (KdoFüU). The technical and troop service unit was thus given again, since the head of the ICT directorate was also the commander of the KdoFüU.

In 2007 a partnership was established with the Federal Office for Metrology and Surveying (BEV) in order to document the longstanding professional cooperation and to emphasize its importance for the future.

Since the transfer of the KdoFüU to the Management Support Center (FüUZ) on January 1, 2011, the IMG has been incorporated into the FüUZ.

On January 1, 2017, the FüUZ became the Command Support Command and Cyber Defense , so that the Institute for Military Geosystems became part of the KdoFüU & CD.

On April 1, 2019 - after the dissolution of the KdoFüU & CD - the Institute for Military Geosystems remained part of the new information communication technology and cybersecurity center .
