Institute for Atmospheric Physics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Institute for Atmospheric Physics is a research institute of the German Aerospace Center . V. (DLR) at the Oberpfaffenhofen research site .

With around 140 employees, the institute researches the physics and chemistry of the atmosphere from the ground to the mesosphere ( meteorology and air chemistry ). Knowledge of the dynamic, cloud-physical and chemical processes that take place there is the basis for a wide range of applications in aerospace. The key mechanisms and changes in the atmosphere are quantified and systematically investigated using remote sensing , measuring aircraft and computer models, both on a regional and global scale . One focus is on researching the effects of traffic emissions on the composition of the atmosphere and on the climate .

The institute's director has been Markus Rapp since July 1, 2012.

There is an institute of the same name at the University of Mainz .
