The Institute for Religion and Peace (InstRel & F) is an institution of the Catholic military pastoral care in Austria.

history

The IRF was founded in 1997 by military bishop Christian Werner for the purpose of scientifically examining the current changes in security policy. The first head of the institute was the later military bishop Werner Freistetter .

tasks

The institute cooperates with military and civil institutions in researching the question of the contribution of religions and religious beliefs to peace. A special focus is on the respective operational areas of the Austrian Armed Forces .

  • Contact with other churches, ecclesiastical communities and religious communities
  • Promotion of scientific projects and implementation of corresponding events
  • Publication and documentation of research results
  • Contributions to professional ethics education in the Austrian Armed Forces

documentation

The institute publishes the Ethica series and is building a library on the subject of military ethics in the interdisciplinary field of theology, canon law, humanities, natural sciences and military sciences.
