The Institute for Sex Education , isp for short , is a specialist institute for sex education and sexual education in German-speaking countries. The institute is run by the Association for the Promotion of Sexual Education and Sexual Education. The institute offers advanced and advanced training courses on topics related to sex education and aspects of gender research. history

In 1988, freelance lecturers founded the “Association for the Promotion of Sexual Education eV” and thus the Institute for Sexual Education (isp). By establishing an independent specialist institute, sex-pedagogical action research , concept development, practical advice and further training should be promoted.

The starting point was a model project for the development of cross-agency, consensus-based sex-educational materials for youth work in leisure and school. Following on from the sex education tradition of the early 1970s, isp wanted to enable people to deal responsibly with their own sexuality in a way that affirms sexuality .

Since it was founded, isp has expanded the variety of topics and target groups for sex education. For example, on its fifth anniversary, it was already devoted to early childhood sexuality as well as sexuality in old age and the question of whether the separate treatment of homosexuality would not contribute to the discrimination of same-sex lovers.

The cooperation with institutes and universities in German-speaking countries deepened the knowledge of the cultural characteristics in the individual countries.

The name of the association was adapted in 2007 to the further developments of the institute and since then has been called "Association for the Promotion of Sexual Education and Sexual Education eV" The isp is a founding member of the Society for Sexual Education (gsp eV) in Kiel .

In 2008 an office was set up in Koblenz .

Basics

The isp is run by an association. That means that all lecturers are members of the "Association for the Promotion of Sexual Education and Sexual Education eV". In addition to the freelance work, many lecturers are employed by other social work organizations or educational or advisory institutions.

Sex education and sexual education should accompany and support people on their way to self-determination and responsible handling of the area of ​​life of sexuality.

The sex education work of the isp is based on a humanistic and holistic approach with methods of lively learning. This approach takes into account the intellect as well as feelings, senses, body and social relatedness of the person, is attentive to the developments in sexual culture and incorporates the knowledge of sexology and related disciplines. Standing in the tradition of emancipatory sex education, the isp also takes a position on socio-political issues. The institute takes z. B. critical position towards attempts to provide norms for the design of sexuality.

Field of activity

For many years, isp has been providing interested institutions and specialists with a wide range of sexuality-related topics.

The Institute for Sex Education in Germany has been offering further training in sex education every year since 1989. These are aimed at full-time and voluntary specialists in prevention and educational work, counseling, education, care and assistance for the disabled. Interested specialists receive a comprehensive, contemporary and certified qualification for dealing with sexuality-related topics in their institutions and for sex-educational work with various target groups. The training courses are carried out in Germany and in German-speaking countries.
