Institute for Materials Research

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Institute for Materials Research of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cologne-Porz develops material solutions and their process technologies for applications in aviation , energy technology , space travel and transport.

Here, the institute pursues a systemic approach to research and construction together with national and international partners from industry, universities and in cooperation with non-university research institutions, under the joint direction of Heinz Voggenreiter and the Institute for Building Methods and Construction Research at DLR in Stuttgart Development work that enables integration into structures and components.

The institute conducts research in the fields of metallic structures, hybrid material systems and intermetallics, fiber-ceramic composite materials, thermoelectric systems, high-temperature and functional layers, as well as experimental and numerical methods. The engineering chain is served throughout, from simulation to production of the application-oriented prototype.

In addition to its involvement in basic and cooperation projects with industry, the institute participates in teaching at the University of Stuttgart , RWTH Aachen and the Ruhr University Bochum as well as in the training of young scientists.
