Institute for Science and Art

The Institute for Science and Art, IWK in Vienna is an Austrian association for research and educational work in the field of science and adult education .

The IWK, founded in 1946, is financed by the Federal Ministry for Education and Women . It receives further funding from the Federal Ministry for Science, Research and Economy and from the Department of Culture of the City of Vienna. It organizes symposia, working conferences, seminar series, working groups, book presentations and is dedicated to interdisciplinary issues, above all by linking science and adult education. The organ of publication is the quarterly magazine Mitteilungen of the Institute for Science and Art . There are also research centers in the areas of women's studies / gender studies , emigration and exile research, and image education and visual communication . The institute maintains its own library on these subject areas.

The IWK offers a platform for the exchange between university and non-university, between international and Austrian scientists as well as young Austrian academics. Since 2012, the University of Vienna has been cooperating with the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Science to make scientific questions in philosophy and educational science public. In 2015 the IWK was accepted into the ring of Austrian educational institutions.
