Instow is a village in the north of the county of Devon , England with about 1500 inhabitants.

location

Instow is on a cove where the River Taw and River Torridge converge, across from Appledore . Instow is about three kilometers from the open sea. As a result of this location, there is almost no swell on Instow Beach , but there is a very strong tidal range . The bay is used for various forms of water sports - especially sailing and surfing . It is less suitable for swimming due to the strong tidal currents and the poor water quality.

Signal box

Instow was connected to the English railway network in 1855 . However, operations ended in 1982 and the tracks were removed in 1985. Only the signal box built around 1880 remained . Due to its age, it was the first signal box in England to be listed as a historical monument .
