Integral communication

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Integral communication one is communication model called that on the integral theory of Ken Wilber is based. Good or successful communication is measured against the AQAL model of integral theory. The approach has also been applied to corporate communications for management literature.

AQUAL model

AQAL (all quadrants, all levels) is a map of human consciousness and human development that includes all quadrants ( I , It , We, You), levels , lines, states and types of consciousness.

definition

Terry Patten , Adam Leonard and Marco Morelli write together with Ken Wilber in their book "Integrale Lebenspraxis":

"Integral communication means adapting or translating your language in such a way that it corresponds to the personality type (emotional language, intuitive language), the state (enthusiastic language, melancholy language ), the quadrant on which your counterpart primarily focuses (I, we- , Es-language), corresponds to the lines (musical language, mathematical language) and levels of your counterpart while remaining very authentic. "

A prerequisite for integral communication is (at least) integral awareness - and that goes with it, says Michael Habecker

  • the ability to change perspective ( subjective , intersubjective , objective )
  • a high degree of self-reflection as well as knowing or becoming aware of one's own shadow parts
  • a realistic assessment of the level of consciousness at which the other person is in order to adjust to the interlocutor appropriately
  • taking into account type and state of consciousness
  • a high level of empathy

A conscious and continuous inner development is the prerequisite for integral consciousness. Habecker: "It is a (good) thing to train a new and better communication behavior within a few days during a communication seminar, but it is a completely different thing to make permanent structural changes (level and line development, expansion of perspective, shadow integration) then also permanently show in better communication. If this continuous work is not carried out, there is a risk that behavioral changes that have been trained or read only lead to temporary changes that do not pass the practical test in everyday life. "

Integral corporate communication

The same aspects and principles apply to integral corporate communication as to personal communication. This means that it also takes into account all elements of the AQAL model.

However, the focus of integral corporate communication is (initially) on the two lower, collective quadrants. In order to select target groups and describe their thoughts and actions, the Spiral Dynamics value model developed by Don Edward Beck and Christopher C. Cowan is mainly used. However, the more it is possible to move from impersonal mass communication into personal dialogue, the more the two upper, individual quadrants come into play.

Ultimately, integral communication can be used in all areas of corporate communication - from acquisition and initial contact to conflict management . However, there is a danger when integrally informed communication is used in companies as a mere ( manipulation ) technique. Ralf Rossnagel gives the example of greenwashing , which means that a company tries to achieve a “green image” through marketing and PR activities, but without implementing appropriate measures in the context of value creation .

Fred Kofman

Fred Kofman presented a connection between integral approaches and nonviolent communication in Meta-Management: The New Path to Effective Leadership . In Marshall Rosenberg, he follows the approach of non-violent communication, but also takes into account the levels of consciousness. His approach is therefore quite integrally inspired.
