Randa Abu Bakr

Randa Abu Bakr (also Randa Abou-Bakr ; * 1966 in Cairo ) is an Egyptian literary scholar . She holds a professorship for English studies and was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Cairo in an election organized by the university in early June 2011 . Your choice attracted international attention. A short time later, however, she was removed again.

Randa Abu Bakr was elected from seven candidates at the beginning of June 2011, shortly after the acute phase of the revolution, on the initiative of the more than 300 professors and academic staff at the Faculty of Humanities and against the will of the university management. She was the only woman among them. However, the Ministry of Culture then intervened, declaring the election invalid because Abu Bakr was a member of the March 9th Movement . New national rules were established for the election of the dean that someone else won.
