Intel 8288
The Intel 8288 is a bus controller chip for the Intel 8086 / 8087 / 8088 / 8089 processors has been developed. The module is supplied in a 20-pin DIL housing . He was u. a. licensed to NEC and Siemens .
If the 8086 (and also the 8088) are operated in maximum mode , they are primarily configured for multiprocessor operation or for working with coprocessors . Since the required control lines are not provided in this case, these are generated by the 8288. It has been used since the first PCs ( IBM-PC and IBM-PC XT ). The successor 82288 is used in the IBM PC AT .
Terminal assignment and function
The lines WR , M / IO , DT / R , DEN , ALE and INTA are lost as a result of the maximum mode . They are generated by the 8288 from lines S 0 , S 1 and S 2 .
